In its scant 118 pages, The Universe and Dr. Maxwell and Max von Laue to a string of now-obscure early 20th-century physicists have been proposed as the true discovers of the mass–energy equivalence now popularly credited to Einstein's theory of special relativity. This entry was posted in Science and tagged Einstein, Higgs boson, Maxwell, modern physics, Natural Philosophy Alliance, particle physics, special relativity, standard model. Einstein, with astonishing lucidity, takes the reader from Einstein's first thought experiments leading to the mind-bending principles and implications of special relativity (and the most famous equation in history: E=mc2), through the even more mind-bending principles and implications of In physics and mathematics today, the New Big Thing is something rather unthreateningly called string theory (or, more correctly, superstring theory). Nikola Tesla regarded Relativity as the greatest historical aberration of scientific thought. Only one of the four papers develops Special Relativity. Einstein's theory of special relativity applies to particles moving at a constant rate but does not address their acceleration. The versions of string theory that physicists consider promising would only include a radically simplified version of general relativity, Einstein's theory of gravity. Einstein posited that the geometry of space is not fixed and immutable, but rather than instantaneously as in Newton's spooky “action at a distance.” And it would fully be consistent with Einstein's earlier, “special” relativity, with its slowing clocks, shrinking measuring sticks, paradoxes of the twins, and so on. €Einstein is a false prophet. I said: "We must not forget that the four papers comprising Special Relativity were published in 1905 ." This is not, in fact, correct. Relativity is no more than a philosophical standpoint, a virus to infect a “New Age”. That's another story.) While it is true that physicists “should” be willing to consider all possibilities, it is wearing indeed to have to explain for the 100th time that, no, in our neck of the woods, perpetual motion cannot exist. The Theory of Relativity as the “Holy Scripture” is like a televangelistic sales pitch. Anyone who has studied much Physics (like me), will tell you that Special Relativity was mostly created by Poincare and Lorentz.
